John Roese is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at EMC Corporation. With revenues of $21.7 billion in 2012 and 60,000 people worldwide, EMC is a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service. Fundamental to this transformation is cloud computing. Through innovative products and services, EMC accelerates the journey to cloud computing, helping IT departments to store, manage, protect and analyse their most valuable asset—information—in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way.

As EMC's CTO, Roese leads EMC's Corporate Office of Technology, which is responsible for defining the company's technology vision and strategy. In his role, he works directly with EMC's executive team and leading technologists to shape EMC's technology strategy as the company embarks on its next phase of growth and leadership across three of the most transformative trends in IT: Cloud, Big Data and Trusted IT.

Roese has more than 20 years of industry experience, including executive leadership of large scale, complex, global R&D organisations. His extensive systems background includes technical expertise in a wide range of related disciplines including storage, servers, networking, hardware design, silicon development, software design, systems and applications. He joined EMC in October 2012 from Huawei Technologies, where he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the North American R&D Centres. Roese was responsible for advanced technology development across the entire product portfolio, including cloud computing and consumer technology. Before that, he held a series of senior leadership positions including CTO at Nortel Networks, Broadcom Corporation, Enterasys Networks, Inc. and Cabletron Systems.

Roese earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He holds more than 18 pending or granted patents in areas such as policy-based networking, location-based services and security. He has served on numerous boards, including ATIS, a leading ICT standards organisation, OLPC, which aims to empower the world's poorest children through education and access to low-cost laptops, Blade Networks, now part of IBM System Networking, Pingtel, which delivers Unified Communication solutions and Bering Media, which focuses on location-based advertising.

Brian joined Juniper Networks in July 2007 and currently serves as the Director of Data Center & Cloud for Asia Pacific. In this role, Brian is responsible for driving, developing and evangelizing Juniper Networks solutions in Data Center and Cloud Computing for customers throughout the Asia Pacific region.

In this role, Brian provides Juniper's customers with insight into how Juniper Networks designs and technical innovations can help transform their networks. Thus creating efficiencies in the business and enabling their applications.

Brian has spent more than 17 years designing and implementing IP networks and security architectures and designs. He has worked as a security architect, network designer and Infrastructure manager for a variety of organisations both Service Provider and Enterprise.

Prior to Juniper Networks Brian had over 11 years experience performing a variety of functions including, Security auditing and review, IP networking design and architecture, security architecture and design, CoBiT auditing and compliance, web application design, forensic analysis, systems management, disaster recovery, performance measurement and capacity planning.

Brian is a current CISSP, SNIA SCSP and Juniper JNCIS


Chad Alpert, Archer Business Manager, RSA, ANZ

Chad Alpert is the RSA Archer Business Manager for Australia and New Zealand. In this role Chad is responsible for all aspects of RSA Archer eGRC solutions across the region, and focused on building RSA’s regional capability, supporting the RSA Archer business and assisting clients in driving efficiencies and automation through eGRC business processes.

Chad’s background is as a Senior Risk Management Consultant and BDE, bringing more than 15 years of experience working in Risk Management and Information Technology. Chad brings the confidence and possess the skills necessary to assist organisations in identifying and implementing appropriate (and pragmatic) strategies and solutions, enabling them to realise their business objectives. Drawing upon knowledge and experience gained across multiple industries, he has been able to develop a wealth of experience and understanding of Strategic, Operational and IT risk providing innovative solutions for clients across the globe.


Charles Sevior, CTO (APJ), Isilon Office of the CTO; EMC Isilon APJ

Charles Sevior is a member of the Office of CTO for the Isilon Storage Division of EMC². With a strong background in the M&E sector, he also provides focus on solutions for Life Sciences, Healthcare, EIS and other sectors across the Asia-Pacific-Japan region.

Charles has had 30 years of technology experience, most recently as head of Engineering and IT for leading commercial television broadcaster Nine Network Australia.  There, he oversaw the business and technology transformation required to adopt a fully digital file-based workflow as well as the construction of state of the art data centre and broadcast facilities.  He has held numerous executive and Director positions and has worked as an independent consultant.

Charles holds a Master of Business & Technology from UNSW and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.


Chris Mawer, APJ Evangelist, Unified Storage Division, EMC, APJ

Chris is the APJ Evangelist for EMC's Unified Storage Division responsible for evangelism in Asia Pacific and Japan. He frequently presents at EMC's many venues consulting with customers on how to optimize storage strategies for maximum business impact. Prior to EMC, Chris has worked in specialised roles of Consulting, Infrastructure, Storage and Security.


Clive Gold, Marketing CTO, Office of the APJ CTO, EMC, APJ

Clive Gold is the CTO Marketing at EMC Australia and New Zealand. Joining EMC Corporation in 1999 as the Marketing Director, he became the Director Product Marketing in 2004 and in 2009 Clive took on the Chief Technology Officer Marketing role where he is responsible for communicating EMC's vision, strategy, and direction.

Clive has over 30 years experience in the IT industry and is currently the Chairman of the Storage Networking Industry Association's International Steering Committee as well as Vice Chairman of the local chapter, SNIA-ANZ. Having commenced his career with Hewlett-Packard, Clive subsequently held a variety of senior management positions in sales, marketing and services with companies including ComTech and Pyramid Technology.

Clive holds Masters degree in Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.


Dan Lee, Enterprise Architect (EA), Data#3

Dan Lee is an Enterprise Architect within Data#3’s Consulting Business. He specialises in the creation of ICT Strategic Plans and Technology Roadmaps. Dan is also a thought leader in the area of User Centric Computing and leads the development of User Centric Computing capability for Data#3.


Danny Elmarji, NSW Systems Engineer Manager, EMC, ANZ

Danny Elmarji is a PreSales leader at EMC Australia and New Zealand. Danny joined EMC in 2005, where he has held a variety of roles within the EMC Systems Engineering community. Danny is primarily responsible for running the engineering community focused on the following districts; NSW Enterprise, Mid-Market, Public Sector and Global Alliances. He has a solid framework of computer concepts and technical principles over a 14 year period, with an appreciation for cloud computing and information infrastructure management. With a original background in application development in Java, C++ Danny has cross over to infrastructure and business related studies with the completion of a number of industry certification focused on Virtualisation, EMC Proven Professional and ITIL. Originally from Canada he was also able to complete his bachelor degree in Computer Science and Computing.


Darren McCullum, Regional Sales Manager, Flash Products Division, EMC, ANZ

Darren McCullum is the lead in Australia and New Zealand for EMC's Flash Products Division. In this role Darren is responsible for helping organisations modernise their IT Infrastructures through the adoption of EMC's market leading Flash memory storage technologies including server-installed Flash memory & caching solutions, All-Flash-Array solutions and large scale software-defined Flash storage solutions.

Darren has worked within the IT industry for more than twenty five years and has extensive experience in delivering IT solutions and outcomes to organisations of all sizes. He has hands-on experience in delivering operationally complete virtualisation platforms to large enterprise organisations and has real-world understanding of the value gained from service and outcome based approaches to IT.

Prior to joining EMC, Darren worked at VMware in the role of Strategic Account Manager, representing VMware's solution set to some of Australia's largest organisations. Before VMware, he worked with HP and IBM/Lotus in Enterprise Account Management roles.


David Lloyd, Advisory Systems Engineer, Application and Virtualisation Solutions, EMC, ANZ

David Lloyd is a Virtualisation Specialist, and member of the Solutions Architecture Team for EMC Australia and New Zealand. David joined EMC 3 years ago bringing with him over 20 years of customer development and engineering experience. In his more recent role prior to EMC he lead the engineering team for a leading global investment bank that was responsible for the development and delivery of what was at the time, one of the largest global enterprise desktop and server virtualisation environments. Having started life as a developer back in the MS-DOS days, his primary focus over the years has been on the standardisation and automation of platform services within large enterprise environments.

This experience enables David to confidently consult with organisations around their datacenter architectures, cloud initiatives, and enablement of the Software Defined Data Centre.


Dean Jackson, Advisory Systems Engineer, Application Solutions, EMC, ANZ

Dean is an Advisory Systems Engineer with EMC where he has been for over 9 years. In his role, Dean is responsible for designing EMC infrastructure enabled application solutions, across different markets. Dean is recognised as a leading technical consultant within Australia and New Zealand.

Dean started with EMC in Canada where, for four years, he was a solutions architect. He was responsible for supporting data migrations as well as designing and laying out large storage solutions. In this role he was also responsible for the overall architecture and the application solution design.

Since joining EMC in ANZ, Dean has taken on responsibility for supporting EMC infrastructure enabled solutions for SAP and Microsoft applications.

Glen is the Principal Systems Engineer for EMC Australia and New Zealand with over 16 years' experience designing and implementing EMC solutions.

Jerry Vochteloo, Senior Systems Engineer, EMC, ANZ

Jerry has had a very diverse and broad career in IT: working in research, education, services and sales.

Currently Jerry works for EMC helping customers address Backup and Recovery problems in their environments. Jerry has more than 10 years experience in Backup and Recovery space with large tier one customers.

Jerry is a regular speaker and has presented at events like VForum, Storage and Networking World and numerous other trade and vendor conferences.

Prior to his current role, Jerry worked for VERITAS and later Symantec in various roles and before that was a lecturer at both University of New South Wales and the University of Technology, Sydney. While working at the UNSW, Jerry completed his PhD in Computer Science, for which he conducted in depth research into MicroKernel Security.


Kevin Kennedy, Director, Cloud Engineering, Telstra

Kevin has been working for more than twenty years in the IT & T industry, with extensive experience in product and technology management.

Kevin is currently Director, Cloud Engineering, within Telstra Operations, and accountable for the design and development of Cloud applications, enablers and supporting infrastructure across the business and enterprise markets.

Previously Kevin was Director, Managed Service Products, responsible for the product management and strategic development of Telstra's portfolio of Managed and Professional Service Products. In this role Mike and his team are responsible for 32 of Cisco IT's Data Center Facilities working to ensure Cisco gets the most effective use of its Data Center assets. Mike's team also work within the Infrastructure Provisioning process to make doing business with Infrastructure easy enabling the rapid deployment of Cisco's internal Cloud. Mike has worked in IT for over 15 implementing large enterprise ERP solutions, web based revenue earning business and most recently in the Data Centre. Mike has worked in the Telecommunications, advertising, and online newspaper industries. Robin Fromm has been with EMC for 14 years and is CTO BRS Mainframe Solutions and the leader of the Worldwide Mainframe Solution Architects for EMC's Backup & Recovery Systems Division.
