KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
Presenter: Chuck Hollis
“Cloud computing is transforming IT. The way IT deploys infrastructure, builds applications and provides accesses to those applications is dramatically changing, promising both greater efficiency and agility. At the same time, many businesses now see data volumes grow so large they break traditional infrastructures - this is what we call Big Data. Managing Big Data represents a huge challenge for IT, but using analytics to provide insight into Big Data promises to transform business. Cloud computing and Big Data will only be viable if they are underpinned by a foundation of trust - trust that the infrastructure will be available 24x7 and trust that data will not be compromised by the latest advanced threat.
Please join Chuck Hollis, VP and CTO Marketing of EMC as he reviews key trends in the IT industry. Joining Chuck will be senior executives from Cisco and other EMC partners who will outline how their strategy and direction are designed for the new world of Cloud, Big Data and Trust.”
EMC SESSIONS
Presenter: Jerry Vochteloo
It is undeniable that corporate data is growing at a phenomenal rate. Unlike in the past, these days many organisations are embracing this growth in information in order to gain a competitive advantage. With the addition of initiatives like Cloud and Virtualisation there is an unprecedented strain on infrastructure. This pressure is especially evident in the data-protection/backup space. As a result many organisations are embarking on the journey to new backup methodologies like backup to disk, de-duplication and tapeless environments. Although the end state is clear, there are many pitfalls that need to be avoided. This presentation will demonstrate that with mature, purpose built technology, EMC is best positioned to help make the journey successful.
Presenter: Edward Schwartz
Know what's coming and how to avoid it. Over the past 18 months, organizations throughout the world have been under attack by nation states, hacktivists and various cyber criminals. Advanced threats are a common feature in today’s complex threat landscape. No longer confined to defence and military targets, they now take aim at governments and corporations for the purposes of fraud, espionage and sabotage. Protecting against the rising tide of sophisticated attacks requires a new approach to security.
EMC can help you take an intelligence-driven approach to prevent, detect, and ultimately predict attacks. We’ll help you understand:
- How to build an intelligence capability
- What the best sources of information are
- How to design a process that will produce actionable intelligence and the right defensive strategies
Presenter: Thomas Hayes
It is increasingly difficult to maintain visibility while ensuring high availability and performance of critical business services, in the face of increasingly complex, virtualized, and changing environments. This session is about how EMC IT Operations Intelligence and VMware Operations Management Suite for Virtual Data Centre environments, provide cross domain insight to help you deliver new services quickly and reliably, identify and resolve problems before service impact, and improve operational efficiency.
You will also learn how EMC's IT Operations Intelligence and VMware's Operations Management Suite for Virtual Data Centre can help you resolve problems 60% faster, ensure maximum service uptime, and achieve a 2 times improvement in operational efficiency.”
Presenter: Mark / Clive Gold
This discussion will look at the challenges that traditional approaches to data warehousing face from the phenomenon of "big data" - not just at the technology layer, but across the entire approach to information management - people, processes, architecture, methodology, metadata management and more. A brief and thought provoking overview of areas that will present significant challenges as organisations wrestle with getting business value from the potential that big data presents.”
Presenter: Anthony Pepin
This session discusses how you can leverage EMC’s platforms to deliver predictable and sustained performance for your applications from Microsoft, Oracle and SAP. Solutions including automatic application protection, automatic performance and service level control. Utilising technologies such as RecoverPoint, FAST, Flash and VFCache with EMC’s documented best practices for the architecture, deployment and operations, provides you with a balanced, efficient and effective infrastructure.
Presenter: Glen Hyat
Symmetrix VMAX-40k
The industry's gold standard storage array is now twice as fast, federates external storage and brings FAST-VP to IBM-i and z series machines.
Presenter: James / Dean Jackson
Talk about active-active datacenters and many vendors proffer some technology. However, only EMC VPLEX delivers a true solution, which delivers read/write access to data at both sites while simplifying and adding to the reliability of your environment.
In this session you will learn how EMC VPLEX transforms your cloud applications (such as: VMware, OVM, Hyper-V, MS SQL, and Oracle RAC) making them fault tolerant, agile and efficient.
You will discover the three key benefits to your organisation, namely:
- Never waste time and resources doing a disaster recovery tests
- Build a virtual data centre that spans multiple locations allowing you to unlock the power of those unused assets at your disaster recovery site
Avoid planned and unplanned outages by being able to easily move applications between sites without downtime.
Presenter: Roman Tarnavski
Changing business requirements lead to workloads and demands on you and your systems, which can no longer be managed using a spread sheet! Re-designing the VNX to fully utilise the benefit of FLASH technologies goes beyond faster storage, to fully automated and dynamic utilisation of the available resource to meet changing workloads.
In this session you will learn how:
- The FAST suite creates a dynamic and automated way to meet your SLA’s.
- Tightly integrate storage into the rest of your environment:
- Into applications to empower your administrators driving efficiency.
- Into your replication and backup to understand your risk fully.
- Simplify and enhance your virtual environment.
- Over 80 integration points into VMware and Hyper-V, makes the storage ‘transparent’ to the virtual environment. Higher performance, more visibility and control all for free via deep integration.
Presenter: Gary Donin
Exponential data growth is not new, however today large file shares and Big Data requirements are stretching the limits of traditional scale up architectures. Unlike traditional architectures, Isilon scale out technology produces more performance, less management overhead, and high utilisation as it scales out; bigger is better, easier and more cost effective!
In this session you will witness the building of a massive storage system in a minute amount of time. While we build a 20Pbyte system we will talk about
- Simplicity of building and scaling storage
- Policy based automated management - “Work not fit for humans”
- Maximising Flexibility to leverage one infrastructure to run workloads from virtual environments to your Hadoop Big Data store.
Presenter: Chad Singleton
Hadoop is emerging as the preferred solution for big data analytics across unstructured data. Using real world examples learn how to achieve a competitive advantage by finding effective ways of analyzing new sources of unstructured and machine-generated data.

Leveraging the Cloud for Business Continuity
Presenter: Andy Solterbeck
Natural disasters and growing demands for IT to support industry security and regulatory compliance highlight that security, business continuity and resource planning is critical. In fact, in the IDC/EMC 2011 Digital Universe Study, IDC predicts that by 2020 the world will generate 75 times the number of data containers which protect critical information today, while IT staff to manage it will grow by less than 1.5 times. Such predictions underline why security and business continuity planning will remain important on the executive agenda. This session will outline how customers can take advantage of Telstra’s Cloud Services, powered by Hosted EMC solutions, to strengthen and transform their organisation with strategies that deliver agile, secure and resilient operating environments.
